I’m probably the only person in the world with this problem, but I find it’s usually too hot for my comfort. Okay, I’m probably the only non-menopausal woman with this problem. I moved to California from Maryland six years ago, and it’s still too hot for me here. And I spent almost those entire six years living in apartments or houses that had no air conditioning. At least California, in some areas at least, they can get by without air conditioning. The one time my air conditioning broke in Maryland, it was the dead of summer and I was afraid for my health.
To make things worse, the air conditioning repair guy said he couldn’t figure out the problem. He did something, put his hand up to the vent, said it was blowing, and went on his merry way. It was blowing–hot air. The temperature in the apartment went up into the hundreds, and my roommate retreated to his parents’ house for the night. I have pets, so I stayed put, cooling myself as quickly as I could while dropping ice cubes into my pets’ water bowls.
When you need air conditioning or furnace repair, it always seems to be at the worst time, like in the dead of winter in the middle of a snowstorm or the hottest day of summer. And it’s always on a long weekend when it’s impossible to get furnace repair or you have to pay overtime because it’s a holiday. It’s like Murphy’s Law with heat stroke. Luckily, a good repair person can be found, and the best ones will do the work so well that you hopefully won’t have to worry about it breaking ever again.
The key to finding a good air conditioning repair professional is to rent, in my case. But if you are responsible for the repair, don’t try to do it on your own. Spring for a technician who knows what he’s doing, and choose a reliable heating or air conditioning unit so you won’t have to deal with this problem next year. Heating and cooling your home is very important, no matter what the weather is like.
